1. Safety First
Before you begin packing your bags for an action-packed trip to North Carolina, there are a few things you should consider first.
Be sure you know how to swim. An eight-foot-deep pool lies at the base of the rock slide.
Kids 6 and under must slide with an adult. Life jackets and kid’s puddle jumpers are the only personal flotation devices allowed.
Slide only in the sitting position. Remember safety first!
Be advised the rocks and wooden viewing platform can become very slick, be sure to watch your step.
The sliding rock will be closed if lifeguards determine it is unsafe for visitors. This is often due to thunderstorms or high water.
2. Come Prepared
Sliding rock is a popular attraction. It is not uncommon during the peak season to wait in line.
Be sure to bring the following:
- Swimwear
- Towel
- Sunscreen
- Bottled water
- A change of clothes
- Water shoes
- Denim shorts
3. Plan Ahead
To get the most enjoyable experience, weekdays work best when visiting sliding rock to avoid any crowds.
Plan accordingly. The parking lot reaches capacity quickly. Once the parking lot is full, the park will not grant additional visitors entry.
In the event you are unable to find parking, try visiting other nearby attractions in Pisgah forest. Plan to spend 1-2 hours enjoying the area.
4. Need to Know Info
The US Forest Service now operates the sliding rock attraction in Pisgah forest. Admission is $4.00 per person. Credit cards are now accepted for convenience.
A season pass is also available per vehicle for $25. Bus parking is available (limit of 4). Restrooms are available during peak season when the park is fully staffed.
Pets are permitted in the area but must remain on a leash at all times. Pets are not allowed to slide down the rock slide.
The closest restaurant to sliding rock is approximately 4 miles away, the Cradle of Forestry cafe. Several picnic sites are available just down the road on US-276.
5. Have Fun
