3. Pisgah National Forest
Brevard, NC has the unique honor of being located near Pisgah National Forest, which is home to a variety of incredible waterfalls, as well as incredible biking and hiking trails.
There are about 250 waterfalls in Pisgah National Forest, which dwarfs Brevard in size. Altogether, Pisgah covers over 50,000 square miles. For reference, the entire state of Rhode Island is 70,000 square miles.
With so much space to grow in, it’s no wonder that it boasts so many different mountains, hiking trails, and waterfalls. There are even white squirrels.
These squirrels aren’t a new species. They’re actually the result of a genetic mutation, which appears to have spread through the generation. As far as the locals can tell, these squirrels appear to be descended from one that was alive in the 1940s.
